Levin takes calls from listeners throughout the broadcast, as is customary on talk radio; he is frequently antagonistic to callers who disagree with him, usually cutting them off with phrases like “get off my phone, you fool.” Levin frequently recounts current events and conflicts in the show’s program segments.

The tempo of these portions begins slowly and solemnly, building to Levin aggressively shouting questions at “Mr.Producer,” who has no speaking role on the show. Levin has his own brand of on-air lingo, some of which he created and others which he popularized. He calls mainstream media outlets derogatory titles such “New York Slimes” for The New York Times, “Washington Compost” for The Washington Post, and “MSLSD” for MSNBC. The Ronald Reagan Award was given to him by the American Conservative Union in 2001.
