According to the Tucson Citizen, Michael Pittman Sr. was sentenced to two years on parole after pleading not guilty to misdemeanor battery in January 1998, and his draft stock was reduced as a result of the domestic violence incident. He was chosen by the Arizona Cardinals in the fourth round (95th overall) of the 1998 NFL Draft.

Michael Pittman Sr set a career-high in rushing yards with 926 in 2004, and a career-high in receiving yards with 597 and 75 catches in 2003. He had the most yards in a single year in 2003, totaling 1,348 yards (751 rushings and 597 receiving). On January 7, 2006, he got into a fight with Washington Redskins safety Sean Taylor, who allegedly spat on him after a play during the Buccaneers’ Wild Card playoff game against the Redskins. He retaliated by smashing his fist into Taylor’s helmet. Taylor was ejected during the Redskins’ 17–10 victory. He became a free agent following the 2007 season.
