Vickie Ann Lawrence was born on March 26, 1949, in Inglewood, California, to parents Anne Alene and Howard Axelrad. Her father is a certified public accountant who previously worked for Max Factor. Vickie’s family surname was legally changed to “Lawrence” when she was a child. She attended UCLA while also working on “The Carol Burnett Show,” but dropped out after two years.

In her final year of high school, she competed in the Miss Fireball of Inglewood pageant for the local firefighter’s ball. Vickie looked similar to a young Carol Burnett, according to a local reporter’s account of the event. When her mother informed her, she wrote a letter to Carol Burnett, including the article. Carol informed Vickie’s father that she would attend the competition after reading the letter.

Lawrence won the competition, and Carol was summoned to the stage to crown her. Carol was looking for an actress to play her younger sister on “The Carol Burnet Show” at the time. She auditioned for the part and was cast. When she landed the part, Burnett and Harvey Korman mentored her and gave her a variety of skills that aided her much.

Vickie Lawrence married Bobby Russell, a well-known singer and songwriter, in 1972. Their marriage, however, was short-lived, as they divorced just a few years later, in 1974. On November 16, 1974, she married Al Schultz, a prominent Hollywood make-up artist, in the same year. Vickie gave birth to two children: Courtney Allison Schultz on May 5, 1975, and Garrett Lawrence Schultz on July 3, 1977. Vickie Lawrence was diagnosed with chronic idiopathic urticaria in 2011. In terms of acting, she is best recognized for her performance on “The Carol Burnett Show.” She worked on the show from its inception in 1967 till its conclusion in 1978. She was so good as the Mama character on The Carol Burnett Show’s “The Family” that NBC produced the show “Mamas Family,” which centred on the Mama character. The series first aired in 1983 and lasted till 1985.

It was renewed in 1986, a year after it was cancelled, and ran in first-run syndication until 1990. The renewed version of the show was more successful. She has also appeared on episodes including “Laverne & Shirley,” “Major Dad,” “Roseanne,” “Hannah Montana,” and “Yes, Dear.”

In terms of her singing career, she began as one of a slew of hopefuls on Johnny Mann’s “Stand Up and Cheer” TV show. She is most known for her song “The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia,” which she co-wrote with her now ex-husband, Bobby Russell. The song was published in November 1972 by Bell Records and sold over 2 million copies. As a result, the Recording Industry Association of America awarded it a gold disc in April 1973. Her other songs, “He Did With Me” and “Ships in the Night,” were also big hits.

She has also been on game programs such as “Match Game,” “Password,” “Password Plus,” and “Super Password” as a panellist. She was also a fantastic discussion show host on the TV show “Vicki!” which aired from 1992 to 1994. Vicki’s creative disputes with her syndicator caused the show to cease after only two seasons. Four years later, in 1997, she became the host of “Fox After Breakfast,” which was renamed “The Vicki Lawrence Show.” However, the show was terminated five weeks later due to low ratings.
