After graduating from Harvard, Lee joined the Singapore Armed Forces and quickly progressed through the ranks. Furthermore, he was promoted to Brigadier General of the force in 1983 but resigned in 1984 to enter politics. Lee Kuan Yew joined the ruling People’s Action Party, a center-right political party led by his father. Furthermore, it has been Singapore’s dominant political group since the 1959 general election.
