Then, just one week after Ford’s claim, a second woman came forward. As a result, Deborah Ramirez said that he exposed himself to her during a Yale party when they were both freshmen. Brett, though, refuted the charge once more, calling it “a slander, plain and simple.”

Similarly, a third woman, Julie Swetnick, accused him of sexually aggressive behavior during high school alcohol-fueled parties. After a two-day hearing in which both Ford and Brett testified, the Senate Judiciary Committee voted on Brett’s nomination to the Supreme Court along party lines.

Furthermore, Republican Jeff Flake proposed a one-week wait. “should allow the FBI to conduct an investigation restricted in time and scope to the present allegations,” prior to the Senate’s decision to advance Kavanaugh’s confirmation.

In addition, the Senate Judiciary Committee convened a follow-up hearing on Ford’s allegations. In which sexual violence experts are described as reliable. The committee then voted to send the confirmation to a full Senate vote. On October 6, the full Senate confirmed Brett by a vote of 50-48.
