Agneta se Fältskog was born to parents Knut Ingvar Fältskog and Birgit Margareta Johansson on April 5, 1950 in Jönköping, Smland, Sweden. Her father was a department store manager, and her mother was a stay-at-home mom. She has a younger sister, Mona, who was born in 1955.

Fältskog has always been interested in music, and at the age six, she wrote her first song, “Tv sm troll.” She began taking piano lessons and singing in a church chorus. She formed a musical trio, The Chambers, with her pals Lena Johansson and Elisabeth Strub. Fältskog dropped out of school at the age of 15 to pursue a career in music.
