Adair was on the Cash program with Dinah Shore, Peggy Lee, Ray Stevens, Steve Allen, Chet Atkins, Cass Elliott, Vince Gill, and Dolly Parton.
In 1982, she and Denis Solee formed the Adair-Solee Quartet, which later evolved into the sextet Be-Bop Co-Op. Adair’s album Escape to New York served as the singer’s self-titled debut. She founded the Beegie Adair Trio, which has sold over 1.5 million recordings.
Adair appeared in almost 100 records during her 60-year career. Her eponymous trio, consisting of Adair, bassist Roger Spencer, and drummer Chris Brown, recorded 35 of them. Adair was influenced by George Shearing, Bill Evans, Oscar Peterson, and Erroll Garner.
Adair released The Great American Songbook Collection, a six-CD centennial anthology, in 2002. Songs from American composers such as Richard Rodgers, George Gershwin, Jerome Kern, Duke Ellington, Hoagy Carmichael, and Irving Berlin are featured.
Adair also taught jazz studies as an adjunct at Vanderbilt University’s Blair School of Music. She frequently performed at the Nashville Jazz Workshop, where she was on the faculty and board of directors. In 2002, Adair was named a Steinway Artist. She was honored into the Cave City and Western Kentucky University Halls of Fames. For the first time, she received the Nashville Jazz Workshop’s Heritage Award.
