Vincent Edward “Bo” Jackson was a late baseball and football star in the United States. Jackson is the first active player to have been designated an All-Star in both baseball and football, and one of the handful to have done so in all major sports. Childhood and Early Years
Vincent Edward Jackson was born on November 30, 1962, in Bessemer, Alabama, and educated there. Florence Jackson Bond is his mum, and A.D. Adams is his dad. He was the eighth of ten brothers, and his mother provided a lot of care for him and his siblings. His relatives dubbed him a “wild boar hog” since he was still getting into mischief.
He went to McCalla High School, where as a senior running back, he ran for 1,175 yards. Similarly, during his senior year, Jackson hit twenty home runs in 25 games for McAdory’s baseball squad.
In the decathlon, he was a two-time national winner. He established such a large points lead before the 1500 meters both times he was the state decathlon champion that he never participated in that discipline.
Professional Life and Career
The ‘Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ picked Jackson with the first overall selection in the ‘1986 NFL Draft,’ but he chose to play baseball with the ‘Kansas City Royals.’ Beginning in 1987, he also played football with the ‘Los Angeles Raiders.’ In terms of results, 1990 was by far the best year of his career. In football, he recorded 11.3 yards per reception and 5.6 yards per rush. He had a 0.272 batting average in baseball.
In 1991, when playing with the Raiders, he sustained a crippling hip fracture that ended his football career. Later that year, he was acquired by the ‘Chicago White Sox’ from the Kansas City Royals. Bo founded the ‘Bo Jackson Elite Sports Complex,’ a multi-sports dome facility in Lockport, Illinois, with John Cangelosi in 2007. Other investments, such as a nutritional firm called N’Genuity, also paid off for him. He also owns ‘The Burr Ridge Bank and Trust’ in the Chicago suburbs, which is owned by a consortium of developers. Jackson returned to do advertisements for ‘Nike’ in the fall of 2010 for their ‘BOOM’ ad, 20 years since his successful ‘Bo Knows’ campaign. He returned to the ‘Chicago White Sox’ as an envoy on January 22, 2014.
Jackson sustained a dislocated hip during a tackle in his last game, the aforementioned playoff victory over Cincinnati in January 1991. Jackson said in the film You Don’t Know Bo that after discovering the fracture, he physically popped his hip back into the socket, damaging the blood vessels supplying the region. Although doctors saw no evidence that Jackson had medically reset his hip, they did find a crack in one of his hip bones.

In 1985, he received the ‘Heisman Trophy’ at ‘Auburn University.’ In 1987, he won the NFL’s Rookie of the Year Award, the “Bert Bell Trophy.” He was named the ‘American League All-Star’ and the ‘All-Star Game MVP’ in 1989. Jackson was added to People magazine’s list of the “25 Most Intriguing People” in 1990. He has earned the ‘Jim Thorpe Legacy Award’ and the ‘Power to Overcome Award’ from Easter Seals in 1992.
He supported Nike in the late 1980s and early 1990s, and was a part of the successful marketing campaign “Bo Knows.” His robotic successor, dubbed Tecmo Bo, was dubbed “the best athlete in video game history.” He was also appointed the ‘Sporting News Comeback Player of the Year’ in 1993. In 1996, he was inducted into the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame, and in 1999, he was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame. Jackson was called the “Greatest Athlete of All Time” by ESPN Sport Science in March 2013.

Jackson is a husband and father. Linda Jackson, Jackson’s wife, is a licensed psychologist and a recovery counselor. Garrett, Nicholas, and Morgan, their three daughters, are sons. In addition, the family lives in a private residence in Burr Ridge, Illinois.
In 2012, Jackson completed a 300-mile charity cycle ride and launched the ‘Bo Bikes Bama’ program to aid victims of the tornado that devastated parts of Alabama. It has now established itself as an annual tradition.
