Professional Life and Career

Miller rose to prominence in the late 1990s as a result of his appearances on multiple No Limit albums. Miller’s debut album, Life or Death, was released in 1998. Miller’s debut album debuted at number three on the Billboard 200 in the United States, selling 197,000 copies in its first week. Miller’s second album, Bossalinie, was released in 1999 and was a commercial success. The album was marketed by the singles “Like a Jungle” and “Gangsta Walk,” both of which featured Snoop Dogg, a fellow No Limit singer at the time. Trapped in Crime, Miller’s third album, was released in 2000.

Then, his album became famous for including Miller’s most famous and well-known track to date, “Down for My N’s.” Snoop Dogg and Magic, both No Limit performers at the time, were featured on the record. Miller’s fourth and final album with No Limit Records, C-P-3.com, was released in 2001. The hits “What U Gonna Do” and “I’m Not Just” were included on the album. Over 260,000 copies of the CD have been sold so far. Miller’s fifth album, The Truest Shit I Ever Said, was released in 2005.

2008-2015

The single “Y’all Heard Of Me” was used to promote the album. Screamin’ 4 Vengeance, Miller’s sixth album, was released in 2008. Miller’s second album was released while he was in prison. On June 11, 2013, Miller released Ricochet, his debut mixtape, which featured a number of previously unheard tracks. Then, on March 11, 2014, Lil Boosie, a newly released rapper, partnered with Miller on the song “Came 2 Da Can.” Due to Miller’s disparaging words regarding his own brother, former CEO Master P, the song has sparked a firestorm of controversy. Miller revealed on his website on January 5, 2015 that he would be releasing a new album called Ain’t No Heaven In the Pen Bruh. The official tracklist for Ain’t No Heaven In the Pen was then posted on Miller’s website on January 10, 2015.

Furthermore, in April 2016, C-Murder and Boosie Badazz released Penitentiary Chances, a joint album concerning his murder allegation. Snoop Dogg, Calliope Bub, Verse, 2Meka, Cuttyboy G Dinero, Mac Milli, and Yella are among the artists featured on the album. The album’s first single, “Dear Supreme Court,” is about his case and his hope that the Louisiana Supreme Court will dismiss his charges. Miller then acted in and co-starred in the big No Limit film Da Game of Life in 1998.

He also starred alongside his brother Master P and A.J. Johnson in the No Limit film “I Got the Hook-Up” in 1998. Scandal

Miller was found guilty in September 2003 of beating and fatally shooting a fan, 16-year-old Steve Thomas, at the Platinum Club, a now-closed nightclub in Harvey, Louisiana, on January 18, 2002. Miller was arrested for inciting a disturbance at the House of Blues in New Orleans in the early hours of January 19th. On February 28, 2002, he was indicted. Miller was placed under house arrest while awaiting a retrial. Miller’s plea to concentrate on his music career on a per-request basis was approved on March 13, 2007, but his request for a 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. curfew was denied.

Sassone’s decisions in the case became a point of contention in her failed re-election bid in 2008. Judge Ellen Kovach ruled against Sassone, and prosecutors requested that Miller be returned to prison. Miller was placed on house arrest in January 2009 and was only allowed to leave for a proven medical emergency. Miller pled no contest to two counts of attempted second-degree murder on May 27, 2009. These allegations come from a 2001 incident in Baton Rouge in which Miller fired one shot from a semi-automatic pistol, which jammed, at the owner and bouncer of a nightclub who refused to let Miller in with the gun.

The murder trial began on August 5, 2009. Before the tragedy, the victim’s father stated that his son was a fan of C-Murder. The jury reported being deadlocked on August 10, 2009, but Judge Hans Liljeberg urged them to try to resolve the stalemate. The jury returned three hours later to declare that it had returned with a 10–2 guilty verdict. Given the earlier announcement of a deadlock followed by a fast reversal, the judge assumed that one of the jurors decided to switch under duress to conclude the trial and instructed the jury to return and think on the issue longer.

District Judge Hans Liljeberg condemned C-Murder to mandatory life in prison on August 14. Ernest Johnson, president of the Louisiana NAACP, sought a probe into the jury deliberations on August 27, 2009. As a result, Miller filed an appeal against his conviction. The Supreme Court then dismissed Miller’s final appeal on February 19, 2013. Miller’s counsel argued that because federal juries must obtain unanimous convictions in criminal cases, Miller should not have been convicted in Louisiana after a jury voted 10–2 to convict him.

Miller’s attorney, Rachel Conner, filed a post-conviction remedy application in Gretna state court on April 2, 2014. She cited ten grounds in support of her claim that her client was not given a fair trial. Conner stated that she intends to raise more points. Kenneth Jordan, a crucial witness in Miller’s 2009 trial, recanted his testimony on June 26, 2018, claiming that he was forced by investigators to testify against Miller or face a 10-year jail sentence for unrelated criminal charges if he did not. On July 6, another witness, Darnell Jordan, recanted his testimony, claiming that police had kidnapped him and confined him in a hotel room for refusing to testify against Miller.
