Gradoville was discovered shot to death in a residence west of 61st and Pratt on Thursday, September 30, 2021. According to the police report, when they arrived on the scene, Gradoville was lying in the yard of a house with multiple gunshot wounds. Omaha Fire Department medics pronounced him deceased at the spot.

In an update at about 9:30 a.m., OPD said that they had a man in custody and were not looking for any further suspects. They did, however, clarify that they were still in contact with witnesses.

Police eventually identified Ladell Thornton, 43, as the suspect in custody. He is charged with first-degree murder, using a weapon to commit a crime, and illegally possessing a firearm. Thornton was booked into the Douglas County Jail.
