While he was there, Peters got a letter from the FBI accusing him of draft evasion. Because Equity already had several members with the same name, Peters moved to London in 1973 and changed his name to Clarke Peters.

While in London, he formed The Majestics, a soul band, and sang backing on Joan Armatrading’s “Love and Affection,” Heatwave’s “Boogie Nights,” and other David Essex tracks. Peters, on the other hand, disliked music and preferred to work in the theater.
