During a bond hearing, prosecutors stated that he kissed his girlfriend in front of Resendiz-Florez, prompting an envious Resendiz-Florez to approach the girlfriend for a kiss. She also declined. According to authorities, after Jones refused to kiss her again, an agitated Resendiz-Florez snatched his revolver from between two couch cushions and pointed it at him.

Jones attempted to push Resendiz-Florez’s arm down as she removed the safety and pressed the trigger, but the revolver fired, striking Jones in the chest. Jones’ girlfriend then dialed 911. When police arrived, Resendiz-Flores allegedly acknowledged to shooting Jones.
