In 1974, he claimed to be the “BTK” alias “Bind, Torture, Kill” murderer in a sequence of chilling letters to the police.

He began to concentrate on his work when he was hired by a company that specialized in the installation of alarm systems. Moving on, he murdered two more persons in 1977: Shirley Vian and Nancy Fox.

Kansas was shocked by the 1977 murders, and police urged residents to be cautious. Dennis became wary of heightened police activity, and he did not kill for several years.
