Georges Saint Pierre was born in Saint-Isidore, Monteregie, Quebec, Canada on May 19, 1981. He is currently 40 years old and a Canadian citizen. Furthermore, he was born under the sign of Taurus and is French-Canadian. Rush, GSP, is his nickname, and he is a Christian.

He fought for the UCC Welterweight Championship against defending champion Justin Bruckmann at UCC 10: Battles. On October 11, 2002, he submitted his opponent title to Travis Galbraith in the first round of UCC 11: The Next Level. On November 29, 2003, he fought and defeated Pete Spratt at the TKO 14: Road Warriors event.

He made his UFC debut on January 31, 2004, against Karo Parisyan at UFC 46, winning by unanimous decision. In his next fight, he faced Jay Hieron at UFC 48. After dominating his opponent from the start, he won the first round by technical knockout. He faced his first major opponent in his third UFC fight. Prior to facing Matt at UFC 83, he defeated Josh Koscheck by unanimous decision at UFC 74 and Hughes by verbal submission in their third fight at UFC 79. Matt was knocked out in the second round, losing the fight and the welterweight title. He faced Jon Fitch in his first title defense after reclaiming it.
