Gerald Green is an American basketball player who currently plays for the Rio Grande Valley Vipers in the G-League. Gerald Green was born in Houston, Texas, on January 26, 1986. He, too, is 36 years old. He was born to Brenda Green, a mother, and Gerald Green, a father. His father works as a professional fireman. He has three siblings: two sisters, Terika Green and Delonya Green, and a brother, Garlon Green, who is also a professional basketball player overseas.

When he was in the sixth school, he tore his right ring finger while playing basketball. When he was attempting to dunk on the homemade hoop, his finger became hooked on the nail, leaving amputation as the only choice.

Gerald began playing basketball in his second year of high school. He was a junior varsity player at J. Frank Doble High School. He was fired from the squad owing to academic concerns. He soon switched to Gulf Shores Academy, a charter school, where he repeated his grade. Green was selected as an All-American.

In addition, he was the leading scorer in the McDonald’s All-American Game. He also defeated Josh Roberts in the 2005 McDonald’s All-American Slam Dunk Contest. Green had previously committed to Oklahoma State University, but he eventually opted to pursue the NBA Draft instead. He was one of the final players to enter the NBA straight out of high school.

Gerald Green spent most of his career as a Shooting Guard/Small Forward. Green was selected 18th overall by the Boston Celtics. He spent two seasons with the Celtics before being acquired in the Kevin Garnett trade in 2007. Green found himself on the bench after being traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves. He won the NBA Slam Dunk Contest in 2007. Wolves agreed to a deal with Green. He was moved to his hometown team, the Houston Rockets, but was soon dismissed.

He signed a 10-day deal with the New Jersey Nets in 2012 when his slam versus Houston went viral and is considered one of the finest dunks of all time. Jersey signed him for the rest of the season. Before joining the Boston Celtics in 2016, he had previously played for the Miami Heat, Indiana Pacers, and Phoenix Suns. Green resigned from Houston after two seasons in 2018.

In October of the 2020-21 season, he announced his retirement and joined the Houston coaching staff. Green came out of retirement on January 28 and joined the Rio Grande Valley Vipers of the G-League.
