The accident happened at 9:47 a.m. in Calabasas, California, when the helicopter struggled before crashing in the mountains above Calabasas in dense fog. It was a private helicopter that took off from John Wayne Airport in Orange County, California, and was owned by Kobe.

Gianna was only 13 years old when she died, and her father, Kobe, was only 41 years old. Many of the passengers were on their way to Bryant’s Mamba Sports Academy in Thousand Oaks. According to the New York Times, the young players were going to compete in a competition, and Kobe was going to coach the game on Sunday. She and her father, Kobe Bryant, were buried in Pacific View Memorial Park in the Corona del Mar neighborhood of Newport Beach, California, on February 7. On February 24, a memorial service was held at the Staples Center in Downtown Los Angeles.

At the time of her death, Gianna Bryant was a middle school student. Sierra Canyon School, in Los Angeles, California, was her alma mater. She was also a member of the basketball team at her high school.
