Her mother, Jaye Rudolph (born 1930), was a former high-school teacher, and her father, Reverend William Guy (born 1928), was the pastor of the historic Friendship Baptists of Atlanta, which served as an early home for Spelman College; he was also a university instructor in philosophy and theology.
