After a great collegiate career at Lake Superior State University, Wiley signed as a free agent with the Pittsburgh Penguins in 1972, becoming the first Lakers alum to play in the National Hockey League. The Vancouver Canucks selected Wiley in the 1974 NHL Intra-League Draft, although he remained a minor professional. In 1975-76, he had a two-game call-up, and his longest NHL spell came in 1976-77, when he appeared in 34 games for the Canucks and scored four goals and ten points. After leaving the Sharks organization, Wiley played in the East Coast Hockey League, Central Hockey League, and United Hockey League.
