John Gotti was an American mafia boss and the leader of one of the most prominent mafia groups in the country, the Gambino family. Murders, planning to execute murders, drug trafficking, racketeering, loan sharking, illicit gambling, performing underground offences, tax fraud, obstruction of justice, and other crimes were all committed by John Gotti.

Early years

John Gotti was born in the South Bronx, New York, on October 27, 1940. J. Joseph Gotti is John’s dad, and Fannie Gotti is his mum. They were both refugees from Italy. John was the fifth of thirteen children in a family whose sole source of revenue was their father’s erratic job as a day laborer. Furthermore, his family relocated regularly until settling in East New York, a gang-infested neighborhood.

Gotti began serving as an errand boy at the age of 12 in an illegal club owned by Carmine Fatico, the leader of the local biggest organized crime family, Gambino. John Gotti encountered Aniello Dellacroce, who became his lifelong mentor, through his activities with the group. Gotti rose to become the leader of the ‘Fulton-Rockaway’ gang, which was notorious for robberies and carjackings.

Gotti’s toes were smashed when he was 14 years old while attempting to rob a cement mixer. Similarly, the collision gives the aspiring mobster his signature walk and adds another petty offense to his resume.

He joined the Fatico gang at the age of 18 and managed to keep out of trouble by working as a presser in a coat factory and as an assistant truck driver for a while. Franklin K. Lane High School was the alma mater of John Gotti. However, at the age of 16, he dropped out of school. He made further connections in the underworld, and he became one of the Gambino family’s proteges. He was appointed the family’s leader after leading a string of organized crimes.

At the age of 61, Gotti died of cancer on June 10, 2002, at the federal prison facility in Springfield, Missouri.

Following his association with Carmine Fatico, John Gotti embarked on a full-fledged criminal career. At John F. Kennedy International Airport, he and his two brothers began carrying out truck hijackings. In 1968, the FBI indicted him for the United Hijacking. In Fatico, John and his brother Ruggiero began working at the Bergin Hunt and Fish Club.
