John Prine, an American folk legend, died as a result of coronavirus complications. He was 73 years old at the time. Prince died on Tuesday, according to his publicist, after being diagnosed with coronavirus on March 17. Prine’s wife and manager, Fiona, announced on Twitter on April 3 that he was seriously unwell and had been admitted to a hospital’s urgent care unit. His wife also urged people to take the disease’s threat “very seriously.”

Fiona shared a statement on Prine’s official Instagram page, adding that the entire family is devastated by his death. It reads: “John contracted COVID-19, and despite the tremendous competence and care of his Vanderbilt medical team, he was unable to reverse the harm the virus had caused to his body. I had the privilege of sitting with John, who was very drugged, in the hours leading up to his death, and I will be eternally grateful for that opportunity.”

The news of his death shocked the music business, with celebrities such as Bruce Springsteen, Kacey Musgraves, Bonnie Raitt, Bette Midler, and others paying respect to the great. In a Twitter post, Springsteen said:

Who is John Prine? John Prine was born in Maywood, Illinois, on October 10, 1946. William Mason Prine was his father’s name, and Verna Valentine was his mother’s. His father worked as a tool and die manufacturer, while his mother stayed at home. David, Doug, and Billy were his three brothers. They would return to their hometown of Paradise, Kentucky, in the summers to visit family. His brother, David, taught him how to play the guitar when he was 14 years old.

Prine attended Chicago’s Old Town School of Folk Music and Maywood, Illinois’ Proviso Township High School (later known as Proviso East). He worked as a mailman for five years before being drafted into the United States Army and serving in Germany during the Vietnam War. He began his musical career in Chicago.
