He made his featherweight debut when he was 17 years old. He was able to move between super bantamweight and featherweight while remaining undefeated, winning three fights via stoppage.
And, at the age of 19, he was able to defend his first title against multiple-weight world champion Hugo Rafael Soto. In his eleventh professional fight, he won the vacant WBA Fedelatin super bantamweight title and the vacant WBA Federation featherweight title.
