On December 31, 1935, King Salman was born to Ibn Saud, Saudi Arabia’s first monarch, and founder. The Sudairi Seven is Salman’s six full brothers. Murabba Palace was where the King was raised.

He studied religion and modern science before being appointed Deputy Governor of Riyadh Province at the age of 19. Later, on 5 February 1963, he was appointed provincial governor, a position he held until 5 November 2011.

On November 5, 2011, King Salman was appointed as the country’s second Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense. He eventually succeeded his full brother, the late Crown Prince Sultan. Due to his responsibilities, he was immediately appointed deputy Prime Minister.

Salman was appointed Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia on June 18, 2012, following the death of his brother, Crown Prince Nayef bin Abdul-Aziz Al Saud. Later, his son, Prince Salman, was appointed First Deputy Prime Minister. Then, on August 27, 2012, Salman was named Secretary of State, and in September, he was named Deputy Chairman of the Military Service Council.

Salman ascended to the throne on January 23, 2015, at the age of 79, after his half-brother Abdullah died of pneumonia at the age of 79. Later, King Salman issued a statement concerning the death of his half-brother. Prince Muqrin, his younger half-brother, was named Crown Prince.

In terms of marriage, King Salman has been married three times and has 13 children as of 2017. Sultana bint Turki Al Sudairi, his first wife, died in 2011. She died at the age of 71, having given King five children. He later married Sarah bint Faisal Al Subai’ai, whom he divorced. Sarah only had one child for him, Prince Saud. Following Sarah, he married Fahda bint Falah bin Sultan Al Kathleen, with whom he had six children.

Prince Mohammad bin Salman appears to be unhappy with his father’s third marriage, as he has placed her under house arrest due to some concerns. King Salman was said to have been separated from his wife for many years. He was reportedly concerned that she would oppose his plans for a power grab, potentially dividing the royal family. Without his knowledge, he placed his wife under house arrest.

The King is getting older, and it appears that in August 2012, Salman underwent Spinal Surgery in the United States, causing him to neglect his kingdom. Salman also has Alzheimer’s, and his left side isn’t working very well.
