When Orell entered the bus at 3 p.m., Cho became upset and departed without her phone, food, or drink, according to Orell. He searched for Cho with several pals before calling the local sheriff’s office for assistance at 5:13 p.m.

Cho’s tracks were apparently never located by the initial search party, and the tracks recovered by subsequent law enforcement were the only ones. Cho had been planning to meet a puzzler later in the week, so Orell assumed Cho had gotten into a car with someone.

She was leaving the location where she had been staying when she was last seen. Furthermore, she was last seen wearing a yellow T-shirt and jean shorts near Benmar Trail and Hoopa Road, off of California State Route 62.

Investigation

Police and rescue crews searched the area on foot, aided by K9 teams. The area was searched from the air using fixed-wing aircraft. The Morongo Basin Sheriff’s Station notified reporters that the search for Cho had been ongoing since her disappearance and that the sheriff’s helicopter and members of the search and rescue team still felt she had gone away freely because there was no evidence of criminality.

The Morongo Basin Station requested assistance from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department’s Specialized Investigations branch in the search for Cho in September 2021. Orell and her friends utilized social media to share Cho’s missing poster and posted flyers about missing individuals along Bombay Beach in an effort to raise notice of Cho’s disappearance.

On October 9, 2021, while searching for Cho, authorities uncovered unidentified human remains in the harsh terrain of Yucca Valley’s wide-open desert. On October 28, 2021, investigators discovered those remains belonged to Cho. Toxicology results were still being reviewed as of the announcement date to identify the cause and manner of death.
