In terms of his career, Leong began playing badminton at a young age and is a Malaysian right-handed badminton player. In July 2017, Leong won the Asian Junior Championships, defeating Bai Yupeng in the final.

He reached the World Junior Championships final in October 2017, where he was defeated by top seed Kunlavut Vitidsarn, 21-17, 15-21, 9-21. In November 2017, he reached his first senior final at the Malaysia International Challenge, losing to compatriot Iskandar Zulkarnain Zainuddin.

Furthermore, he reached the final of the Thailand Masters as a qualifier in January 2018, losing to second seed Tommy Sugiarto. In April 2018, he won his first senior championship in the Finnish Open, defeating his compatriot Cheam June Wei in the final.
