Mark was picked by the Atlanta Braves in the seventh round of the 1996 Major League Baseball Draft after playing collegiate baseball. On September 2, 1998, he made his Major League Baseball debut as a shortstop. Despite being chosen by the Braves, he spent most of his career as a reliever from 1998 to 2001.

After a couple of years as a backup after Vinny Castilla’s departure, he eventually won the starting spot. But, as he admitted, he did miserably. As a result, he was relegated to the backup position. The Braves declined to sign him to a contract for the 2005 season, which was the worst thing that could happen to him.

After being opted out by the Braves, he signed with the Texas Rangers. However, owing to injuries, he was unable to play for extended periods of time, postponing his promotion to the starting lineup. Finally, in May 2006, he was given permission to resume his profession. Surprisingly, he excelled and achieved a new career-best with 74 points.
