Sullivan claimed that the hit caused him to “see stars” and that he need stitches. Millen later described the incident as “a decent hit.” Following the Lions’ 45-17 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium in December 2003, Millen was chastised for an after-game altercation with former Lions and then-Chiefs wideout Johnnie Morton.

When Millen tried to congratulate some Chiefs players outside the locker room, Morton rebuffed him and stated that he would not speak to Millen. On April 24, 2010, Millen allegedly dubbed fellow ESPN commentator Ron Jaworski a “Polack.” He later apologized on-air, saying he “didn’t mean anything” by the remark.
