Michael Andrew Fox was born in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, on July 9, 1961. He is the son of Phyllis (Nee Piper), a labor force clerk, and William Fox, a police officer, and Canadian Forces associate. He is descended from Irish, English, and Scottish ancestors. Fox’s family lived in numerous cities and towns around Canada due to his father’s job. When his father died in 1971, his family relocated to Burnaby, a sprawling neighborhood of Vancouver, British Columbia. Fox’s father died of a heart attack on January 6, 1990.

Midnight Madness acted in 1980, and Class of 1984, which worked in 1982, are the first films in which Fox appeared as Michael Fox. In the Family Ties show, Fox began playing ‘Young Republican’ Alex P. Keaton. From 1982 until 1989, NBC aired seven seasons of Family Ties.

While filming Family Ties, Fox met his present wife, Tracy Pollan, who played his girlfriend, Ellen.
