Natalie Cole’s Profession & Career
Cole’s musical maturity was first introduced to him by established musicians like Athera Franklin and Janis Joplin, to name a few. These motivated Natalie to the point where, after finishing her education, she began performing at small neighborhood bars. She was performing with her band, Black magic, at the time. She was given the chance to sing in clubs because of her father’s renown, but when she blended her music with R&B Rock songs, she lost her following.
Due to her performances in clubs, producers like Chuck Jackson and Marvin Yancy became interested in Cole and wanted to work with her. The three musicians, Yancy, Jackson, and Cole, collaborated in Los Angeles recording studios and produced their renowned album, Inseparable.
It is during this time that songs like “This Will Be” and “I Can’t Say No” were prepared to be included on the album she was putting together called “You,” which was published in 1975. She later won a Grammy Award for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance when this record reached such heights of success that it was listed among the top 10 hits. Nicole also took home the Best New Artist prize at the Grammys for her impressive performances.
Regrettably, several of the victories Cole kept were first held by her co-producer Franklin, such as the Grammy Awards, and so the animosity started. From that point on, Cole was forced to do everything by herself. She was successful, winning with songs like Unpredictable, I’ve got love on my mind, and Thank you didn’t forget “Our Love.”
Cole was one of the most successful women in the music industry and a very accomplished musician until her passing on January 1, 2016.
