Nikolas Cruz was born on September 24, 1998, in Parkland, Florida, in the United States of America. Nikolas Jacob “Nick” Cruz is his birth name, and he will be 24 years old in 2022. Cruz is of American nationality and of American-White ethnicity. Similarly, he believes in Christianity and was born under the sign of Libra.

Following his family history, he was born to his mother, Brenda Norma Woodward, and his father’s name is unknown to him. Furthermore, his mother had a violent criminal history, having been arrested 46 times, including in 1998 when she was discovered purchasing crack cocaine when six months pregnant with Cruz.

His adoptive father, Roger Cruz, and his adoptive mother, Lynda Cruz, later adopted him and his siblings. He was also reared with his brother Zachary Cruz and sister Danielle Woodard. Nikolas’ father died of a heart attack when he was still a small lad. In November 2017, his mother died of pneumonia.

In terms of his academic background, he attended Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School before being expelled. The basis for his expulsion was that he had bullets in his backpack, and his pals said Cruz loved to talk about firearms, bullets, and poaching. On the afternoon of February 14, 2018, Nikolas Cruz opened fire on students and staff at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in the Miami suburb of Parkland, Florida. As a result, 17 individuals were killed and 17 others were injured.

Cruz was carrying a weapon case and a backpack, according to an officer. Cruz entered a hallway equipped with an AR-15-style semi-automatic rifle and many magazines and began firing indiscriminately at kids and teachers.

At first, he killed three students in the hallway before shooting through the windows of four closed classroom doors, killing six more and injuring thirteen others. Later, he shot and killed five students and one staff member who were stranded in the corridor; four other students were injured on the third level.

Cruz dropped his firearm on the third floor of the building and fled the scene by blending in with fleeing students, perhaps because his rifle jammed.

Cruz was apprehended as the accused gunman around 3:40 p.m. in the Wyndham Lakes community of Coral Springs, roughly 2 miles (3.2 km) from the school. The shooting lasted about six minutes, and all of the victims were killed in under four minutes. School surveillance camera footage and eyewitnesses confirmed Cruz as the shooter.

Cruz was condemned to life in jail without the possibility of release.

On October 20, 2021, Cruz pleaded guilty to all counts and apologized for his acts. The prosecution sought the death penalty, and the trial was set to commence in January 2022. Because of the COVID-19 outbreak, the sentencing phase was continually postponed.

Cruz’s death penalty trial began on July 18, 2022, and finished on October 13, 2022, with the jury recommending that he be sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of release. Cruz was officially sentenced to 34 consecutive life terms without the possibility of parole on November 2, 2022, one for each of the total number of victims slain and injured by Cruz.
