Childhood and Early Years
Randall Mario Poffo is Randy Savage’s birth name. He was born in Columbus, Ohio, on November 15, 1952. He is also the older brother of Angelo Poffo, a well-known professional wrestler in his own right. While his father pursued his job around North American countries before landing in Downers Grove, Illinois, he attended a number of schools.
He was a rowdy student, according to his mother, Judy. He was known for shielding other pupils from bullies at school. He also excelled in a variety of sports, particularly baseball, and after graduating from high school, he joined with the St. Louis Cardinals organization. Similarly, he had injured his shoulder while playing the physically demanding position of catcher. He’d even learned to toss with his other arm, but he couldn’t strike the target. In 1975, his ambitions of playing in the major leagues were crushed.
Death
He died of a sudden heart attack while traveling with his wife in Seminole, Florida, on the morning of May 20, 2011, at the age of 58, according to online media. He went into a coma and lost control of his Jeep Wrangler, which crashed into a tree.
Prior to his death, an autopsy indicated that he had atherosclerotic heart disease. He was cremated and his ashes were spread under his favorite tree in Largo, Florida, as per his desires.
Workplace Environment
Randy and his brother, Lanny, competed for the ‘AWA Southern Heavyweight Championship’ in Jerry Jarrett and Jerry Lawler’s ‘Continental Wrestling Association’ in Memphis. He teamed up with his brother to fight ‘The Rock ‘n’ Roll Express’ in a feud. Later, he was disqualified for pilingriving his opponent through the timekeeper’s table. Professional boxing saw him play the strong boy, or “babyface,” against Jimmy Hart in 1984 and the bad guy, or “heel,” versus Lawler in 1985, with Lawler ultimately defeating Savage in a “Loser Leaves Town” match.
In mid-1985, he also signed with Vince McMahon and made his debut on ‘Tuesday Night Titans.’ He made his pay-per-view debut at ‘The Wrestling Classic’ in November 1985. He overcame The Dragon and Dynamite Kid on his way to the finals, where he was defeated by Junkyard Dog. In the latter half of 1985, he had a feud with Tito Santana, the “Intercontinental Heavyweight Champion.” In October 1985, he was defeated there. He won by count-out in November 1985. He did, however, win the match, but not the championship, because the title was not passed on by count-out.
More on his professional life
In February 1986, he defeated Santana for the WWF Intercontinental Heavyweight Championship in the ‘Boston Garden’ on a ‘Prime Time Wrestling’ show, using an unlawful metal weapon to knock out his opponent. Jesse Ventura, called “The Body,” joined him in a tag team and remained a fan until 1990. He was feuding with George “The Animal” Steele at the time, who had a thing for Miss Elizabeth. Savage won a championship bout for the ‘International Heavyweight’ title as a result of the rivalry. In a match at WrestleMania III in 1987, he lost his ‘Intercontinental Heavyweight Champion’ belt to Ricky Steamboat. The fight had been properly organized and practiced.
Randy subsequently ditched Elizabeth in favor of Sensational Sherri, the former WWF Women’s Champion. Savage was defeated by The Warrior at ‘WrestleMania VII’ later that year. Sherri was prompted to attack him in the ring as a result of it. Miss Elizabeth rushed to his help, signaling the end of his career. He proceeded to play non-wrestling parts on the show and married Miss Elizabeth live on stage. He last appeared in a ‘Total Nonstop Action Wrestling’ show (2004–2005) after wrestling in a ‘WCW’ match in 2000.
Net Worth and Achievements
He won the ‘AWA Southern Heavyweight Championship’ twice, three times the ‘NWA Mid American Heavyweight Championship,’ twice the ‘GPW International Heavyweight Championship,’ three times the ‘ICW World Heavyweight Championship,’ and four times the ‘WCW World Heavyweight Championship.’
In 2009, he was inducted into the ‘Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame,’ and in 2015, he was inducted into the ‘Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame.’ In 2016, he was inducted into the ‘llio DiPaolo Legends of the Aud Hall of Fame, as well as the ‘World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) Hall of Fame. In 1998, he accepted the ‘Man of the Year’ award from the university’s comic group, ‘Harvard Lampoon.’
Randy Savage’s fame and influence in the World Wrestling Federation is virtually equal to that of wrestling great Hulk Hogan at his peak. At the time of his death, he had a $8 million net worth thanks to his long wrestling career and fame.
